Karen Holman - President

Karen Holman is the founding President of the Yorba Linda Chapter of NLYM.  She served as President for two years, served as Past President, and as 1st VP Membership.  This is her third year as a National Board Member, having served as Co-VP of Expansion and President-elect.  After working full time for 12 years, Karen has spent the past 13 years being a stay-at-home mom.  In an effort to keep busy, Karen has volunteered for several different organizations including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, East Yorba Linda Little League, YL Presbyterian Church, Fairmont Private School and Servite High School.

Karen is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, but has lived her entire life in Orange County, California.  Karen loves following college sports, reading and spending time with her husband and two children.

    Diane Edmonston - VP Chapter Support, Past President, Co-Founder

Diane Edmonston, co-founder of National League of Young Men, is serving as VP Chapter Support of its National Board of Directors. Previously, Diane served as National President from 2015-2016, and also served the Newport Mesa chapter as President, President-elect, and V.P. Membership.

Diane’s love of volunteerism and leadership is evidenced by her commitment for the past 28 years in the following organizations: The National Charity League, where she served as President, Parliamentarian, Provisional Trainer, Corresponding Secretary, Advisor, and Vice-President Ways and Means.  The Junior League of Orange County, as Director of Public Relations and on committees focused on fundraising and social awareness issues. Newport Harbor High School Educational Foundation, as a co-founder of the Home and Garden tour. Newport Heights Elementary School, a Meet the Masters Art Program Instructor and fundraiser.

Presently, Diane is a part-time Sales Representative for Love Reusable Bags and a member of the USC Kappa Alpha Theta Corporation Board.

Upon graduating with a BA in Public Relations from the University of Southern California, Diane was employed by the University as a Fundraiser Event Planner and Cochrane Chase Livingston as an Advertising Account Executive.

Diane has been married for 33 years, is the mother of three grown children and loves golf, walking, hanging out with friends and politics.

         Mary Pat Lucas - Co-Founder

Mary Pat is the Co-Founder of National League of Young Men, Inc. (NLYM). Before her service as National President from 2010 to 2015, Mary Pat led as the first Chapter President of Newport Mesa. NLYM under her leadership, transformed an organization of 80 people into seven chapters with a membership of over 1200;  shifting from a local organization to national.

In addition to her service in NLYM, she is a sustaining member of both the Newport Mesa Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. (NCL) and the Assistance League of Newport Mesa. During her time with NCL, Mary Pat gained a wide range of experience holding the posts of Placement and Nominating Chairman, Special Events Chairman, Ticktocker Vice President, Newport Mesa Chapter President, National Council Representative and Ticktocker Regional Specialist. In Assistance League Juniors Mary Pat served as Parliamentarian, Recording Secretary, Provisional Trainer, 1st Vice President and President (2 terms). Mary Pat has also volunteered in many capacities and held offices on the Boards of her Church and her Children’s Elementary and High Schools.

Mary Pat’s passion is in philanthropic work. As a teenager she was introduced to the concept of “giving back to the community” and has always made that a part of her life. As a mother her focus shifted to include teaching her children what it means to help others. Through her work with NLYM she is helping to teach an even wider range of today’s young men.

Mary Pat believes strongly in the NLYM motto of Empowering Young Men through Leadership, Service, Culture and Protocol.

Mary Pat’s educational background earned her a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California which led to a career in the Real Estate Asset Management Industry. She lives in Newport Beach, California where she enjoys time with her husband, three children and granddaughter.


    Cheryl Bui - Vice President Expansion, Co-VP Training


Cheryl Bui is a founding member of the Greater Orange Chapter of NLYM and served as Vice President of Membership for two terms.  On the National Board, she has served as VP of Chapter Support and VP of  Expansion.  This year she is serving as VP Expansion and Co-VP of Training.

After a 25 year career with Proctor and Gamble as a business development manager, Cheryl is recently retired and is able to devote more of her free time to philanthropic efforts and causes near to her heart.  She served on the board of The Glass Slipper Guild for Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) for six years holding the positions of President, Vice President of Membership along with the Fashion Show and CHOC Walk Liaisons.  She has recently sat on the board for St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School in Tustin as Recording Secretary and served in numerous other roles.  Currently Cheryl is a Co-Chair of Servite High School’s largest annual fundraising initiative, The Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon.  This event provides financial assistance to approximately 25 percent of the Servite student body.  In addition, to her board responsibilities, Cheryl is active in her community and has dedicated many hands on hours to organizations including Catholic Charities and the Boys and Girls Club.  She is a native of California and resides in the city of Villa Park with her husband and two sons.

Ellen Wheeler - Parliamentarian

Ellen Wheeler has fond memories from time spent as a founding member of the first chapter of National League of Young Men.  During her four years in NLYM, Newport Mesa she served on the Board as Parliamentarian, Recording Secretary, and Provisional Trainer.  She appreciates the values and experiences this amazing organization provides for so many young men helping them build character and integrity.  

Always passionate about philanthropy, Ellen joined the National Charity League (NCL) Newport Chapter, serving for five years and prior to that, was a member of the NCL Juniors, Newport Chapter for six years.  She loves organizations that allow you to work side by side with your child instilling in them the need to help others and better your community.  Other volunteer positions include the Junior League of Orange County and CASA.

Ellen is a Bruin married to a Trojan, and her post college career was in Real Estate Leasing and Property Management in Orange County, California.  Nelson and Ellen live in Newport Beach, and have a son (23) and daughter (21.)   Favorite activities include tennis, cooking, book club, gardening, bible study and travel.

   Sumi Grossman - VP Technology, Co-VP Training

Sumi Grossman is a Founding Life Mother of the Yorba Linda Chapter of NLYM, where she served on the board as Director of Communication.  This is her third year on the National Board, serving as Director of Communications, VP Technology, and Co-VP Training.

Sumi is the President of a private corporation and Director on two others.  Over the years, Sumi has volunteered for various nonprofit organizations in the roles of Treasurer, Secretary, and technology officer.

Sumi is a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles, with a degree in Computer Science.  She has worked in family businesses and also at the former Rockwell Corporation.  A native of Los Angeles, Sumi has been married to Scott since 1992 and they have two children in college, Jenna and Kevin.  Kevin, pictured above, is a Life Young Man member of the Yorba Linda Chapter of NLYM.
